Common Browning Ab3 Problems and Solutions

ProblemsSolutions
Recoil IssueUse a muzzle to prevent excessive recoil.
Feeding IssueThe feed ramp needs to be polished to fix this issue.
Design IssueGet used to plastic triggers. Almost every gun started to adopt this.
Bedding IssueCall a gunsmith expert to bedding the gun.
Failure to ejectEmpty firing and polishing may solve this issue.

Recoil Issue

When AB3 discharges a bullet, the gun applies force to the bullet, propelling it forward. In the opposite direction, the bullet exerts an equal and opposing force on the rifle. However, it was enormous and difficult to manage.

The lack of a muzzle is most likely to blame for this problem.

The Fix

Using a muzzle break may help to solve this problem. Precision Armament M4-72 Severe Duty or A2 Birdcage is recommended. In case that does not help, there could be mechanical faults.

In this case you should send it to manufacturer for repair. Or, if you are in a hurry take it to a gunsmith for further diagnosis.

Feeding Issue

When I lifted one up and it didn’t feed for [bleep], I realized it needed to be bedded. The AB3 does not come bedded like most Brownings.

I didn’t bed the tang because all of the trigger mechanics are in that region and there isn’t enough room.

The Fix

Replacing the mag will resolve the problem.

I prefer the tikka mag since it has a single stack and feeds better than the AB3’s twin stack mag. Other Brownings, such the Hells Canyon, feature a single stack mag configuration and feed significantly better than the AB3.

Design Issue

Plastic magazines
Plastic magazines

Plastic magazines are where it’s at, and have been for at least two decades.

People do not usually use AB3 due of its plastic trigger. Plastic magazines are acceptable, but plastic triggers are not.

The Fix

You will have to put in some effort to solve this problem. After bedding the recoil lug area, working on the trigger, and sanding and polishing the feed ramp, this problem is resolved.

After that, as I already stated, the barrel is fantastic, but the rest needs work as the design is not up to the mark.

Bedding Issue

One important factor is the inability to correctly use a scope. Many users may have troubles such as the stock not sitting. That is the source of the problem.

This is another design issue. This weapon was not designed to work with a few scopes available in the market.

The Fix

The challenge in bedding a Browning ab3 is keeping the trigger in place while bedding the rear tang. Because its mount is located between the action and the stock, where bedding is required.

Wrapping the trigger mechanism with masking tape would also help.

Failure to Eject

Failure to eject a cartridge occurs most frequently with AB3 when the casing of the recently fired round does not effectively exit the gun’s chamber. This is frequently caused by a broken extractor claw.

The Fix

This problem can be resolved by repairing, replacing the extractor claw, or cleaning the weapon. This problem could also be solved by firing a few rounds with empty magazines.

User Feedback on browning ab3

The AB3 stands out in a variety of ways. Most budget bolt action rifles do not have a locking bolt, and the trigger is far superior to most competitors at this price point. The rifle itself is slightly heavier than an Axis II, weighing roughly half a pound more. Because of its ability to compete with most other hunting rifles on the market and its inexpensive price, the AB3 is tough to overlook.

A Browning AB3 owner stated on 24hourcampfire that he shot it a few rounds after receiving it. For him, the plastic trigger is an absolute no-no. The trigger looks and feels like it belongs on a nerf blaster.

This Browning AB3 is fantastic. They aren’t meant to be messed with. They’re designed to shoot accurately and consistently right out of the box. If you purchase one, leave it alone to perform its work.

  1. I watched this because the bolt lift on my AB3 Hunter is very stiff. But the video you showed does not seem to take much effort like mine to reset the firing pin or trigger. Once it is reset to fire the bolt lifts easily. I don’t know why, sprayed it with CLP but doesn’t seem to improve it. You gave a very nice review on the gun, thanks.
